New This Year! Men’s Spring Service Weekend at Shoshone Mountain Retreat.

New this year: As Shoshone Mountain Retreat recovers from windstorm damage from earlier this year, Man Camp will pause in 2026 (but will be back in 2027!). In its place, we’re calling men to step up for the Men’s Spring Service Weekend, May 15–17, 2026. Come to Shoshone at a reduced rate to put your faith into action—clearing fallen trees and debris, chopping wood, and tackling hands-on projects that help camp stand strong for the season ahead.

Spend a weekend in fellowship, service, and time outdoors. Are you a Thrivent Member? Consider putting together a Thrivent Action Team!

Rev. Mike Von Behren

Mike Von Behren serves as District President of the Northwest District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. He previously served as pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Spokane and has long supported Lutherhaven Ministries. After beginning his career as a chemist, Mike earned a Master of Divinity and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies, with a focus on servant leadership and cross-cultural ministry. He is passionate about sharing God’s Word, developing new ministries, and helping people grow in faith, leadership, and service, and he enjoys camping, sports, movie nights, and time with his wife Jennifer and their two adult daughters.

Weekend Includes:

• Friday Registration 6PM (no meal Friday night)
• 2 nights lodging
• Serve all day Saturday (bring your chainsaws, eye and ear protection, gloves, trucks, trailers tractors, excavators)
• Meals are Saturday Breakfast through Sunday Breakfast
• Sunday morning Breakfast and Worship wrapped up by 11:00AM… feel free to stick around as long as you would like on Sunday to finish up a project or play on your own.

We’ve got dozens of fallen trees that need to be bucked up for firewood and thousands of branches that need to be stacked and burned.  We will also be installing about 15000 pavers for a new outdoor patio and new walkways between the buildings.

Looking for ways to enjoy your Sunday afternoon at Shoshone? The area offers plenty of great self-led outdoor recreation, from fishing the beautiful Coeur d’Alene River (on your own, with a valid fishing license) to ATV or SXS riding off camp property on nearby National Forest lands (licensed vehicles required and a completed camp liability form). You can also explore the area by bike or hike with a variety of biking and hiking options, or head to the Smelterville public shooting range for some target practice.

Note: the Shoshone shooting range will be closed this year.

Our Evening times in the Word will focus on “Men of Metanoia” (Greek for “repentance” or “change of heart/mind”). Pr. Mike will lead us as we look at scriptures where men experienced, through God’s Spirit, significant metanoia moments bringing them to a more faithful walk with the Lord, prayerfully knowing that through these scriptural narratives God can do the same in the lives of each of the men who come. That’s what God calls us to be, “Men of Metanoia.” We’re excited for these times in the Word together!
